About the Event:Join the British Bulldogs and Yale Alumni for a June walk in Richmond upon Thames, starting from Ham House. Please make your own way there: take the District Line or National Rail to Richmond, then take a taxi or the 65 bus (stop D) to Ham House. The gardens and café open at 10am. Enjoy a wander through the gardens before we meet at the café at 10.30. There is an admission charge, as this property is owned by the National Trust. Bring your membership card if you are an NT member.
Art historian Nixi Cura will give a brief talk on the unique place and history of the house. We will have a bit of time to look at the lovely gardens and the exterior of this important historic house (but not the interior, which stipulates an NT-led tour for groups). Then we will set off on and amble along the serene Thames and through some of Richmond’s beautiful country parks.
The route description is here, though note we are starting from Ham House and we will finish at Richmond Station. The walk is approximately 8 miles and classed as moderate, which means it has a few steep places.
We will stop for a late pub lunch along the way at the Boaters in Kingston. Please wear sensible solid footwear. This walk is not suitable for dogs as they are banned from some park areas. Children are welcome. The actual walking time is about 3.5/4 hours. We should end up at Richmond Station at about 5.00 pm.
