When: Monday, June 1, 2015 – Saturday, October 31, 2015 (All day)
Where: Sterling Divinity Quadrangle (SDQ), Yale Divinity Library, Rotunda, 409 Prospect St., New Haven, CT 06511
Description: Much of what the American and European public learned about world religions during the 19th and early 20th centuries came from writings and images supplied by missionaries working overseas. While some missionaries had respect for – or at least curiosity about – non-Christian faiths, most portrayed these faiths as heathen practices from which conversion to Christianity would bring freedom. This exhibit features images, writings, and artifacts from the Divinity Library’s Day Missions Collection that provide a glimpse of how religious practices were portrayed.
