Four members of the of Yale men’s swimming and diving team will compete at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb. – June 26 through July 3 – vying for a chance to race at the Rio Olympics.
The four Bulldogs – rising sophomore Joey Carbone, Brian Hogan ’16, incoming freshman Ryan Huizing and Kevin Stang ’16 – will be swimming among the best in the nation, including storied Olympians Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. The top two finishers in each event, along with the top six swimmers in the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle, will punch their tickets for the Rio Olympics.
Racing on the opening day, Huizing is set to compete in the 100-meter butterfly on Sunday, June 26. Huizing met his cut at the 2015 National Club Swimming Association’s Summer Championship with a time of 54.61, seeding him at 103rd in the event. Huizing is a three-time NCSA Junior National runner-up in the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly.
