The Yale Center for British Art, home to the largest and most comprehensive collection of British art outside the United Kingdom, reopens on Wednesday, May 11 with its landmark building restored to its “original gorgeous glow.”
The building, designed by architect Louis I. Kahn, closed in January 2015 for an extensive interior renovation. Its public galleries have been refurbished and reconfigured, allowing the public to experience the center’s renowned collection as Kahn originally envisioned, while also bringing internal systems, spaces, and amenities to state-of-the-art standards.
“This really was a loving conservation project, and as far as the building is concerned, we hope that its original gorgeous glow is what people will feel when they enter the building and begin to walk through its beautiful spaces,” said the museum’s director Amy Meyers.
