A few votes could make all the difference in Turkey’s knife-edge election, says the McKinsey & Co. consultant-turned-tomato farmer behind a nationwide movement to make sure they’re counted.
Yale University graduate Sercan Celebi and seven other young Turks founded Oy ve Otesi, or “Vote and Beyond,” in 2013, with the hope of applying their analytical skills to the probity of the Turkish vote. By election day on June 7, they expect to marshal 50,000 to 60,000 volunteers to monitor ballot boxes, making them one of the largest civic organizations in the country.
